Technical problems with video conferencing

Technical problems with video conferencing is one of the most common problems associated with video conferencing.

It isn't hard to communicate through video once you become familiar with the system.

You can continue to talk listen, and make sure that your etiquette is acceptable.

However, when it comes to technical problems with video conferencing our control is limited.

No matter how familiar you are with the system there is nothing you personally can do if something is wrong with one of the following:

  • Software a system that you use to video conference. For example, Skype, ooVoo, MegaMeeting, etc.

  • Hardware Physical pieces to the video conferencing equipment that allow you to use it. For example, screens, microphones, etc

  • Network wires or wireless system used to carry your voice and video to the other person. For example, bandwidth, cables.






Lack of help Lack of help, when these problems arise, is another concern. In a corporation, when two parties meet for a session, they usually don't bring a specialized informational technology professional with them.

It will be difficult for someone who experiences a problem during the conference to troubleshoot if they aren't able to diagnose what the problem is.

Internet connection is usually required for a video conference. What this means is that if the bandwidth isn't wide enough to support the traffic going through the line it could cause freezing, delays and choppiness in your video and audio.

If you have a meeting where there are several cameras and too many people are talking through the microphone at the same time through an internet connection that is not made for heavy usage (non commercial), you definitely will have some freezing.

Technical problems with video conferencing can hardly be avoided. What you can do is prepare the equipment as much as possible.

However, usually it is not IF the problem happens, it is WHEN it happens. When it does happen, you need to make sure that you have a network specialist on grounds that is familiar with the equipment.
